Putting it ALL Together
TPACK, or Technology, Pedagogy and Content Knowledge, is important to consider when looking at a problem of practice. Currently, my content is the idea of word problems and my students being able to problem solve these real-world problems. However, despite my pedagogy and attempt to implement technology, I am not getting my content across. In an Algebra I class, I obviously cannot change my content, but rather my pedagogy and the technology. The behaviorist pedagogy of I Do, We Do, You Do is not helping my students, so I pose changing to a more constructivist classroom where my students are leading the discussions. To help me create this environment, using Dan Meyer’s Three Acts of Mathematical Stories, my students will be able to visual real world problems and then answer posed questions in groups, and reconvene as class to see others’ thinking before moving forward. My hope is that over time my students will be confident in their execution of word problems on their Keystone exam in May.
